Michael jest neurobiologiem, ekspertem od sztucznej inteligencji oraz eksperta w zakresie szczytowej wydajności człowieka.  Obecnie pełni funkcję głównego oficera naukowego Kolektyw Flow Research, founded by Steven Kotler.  He holds a PhD in neuroscience and complex systems, having researched networks of the human brain involved in attention, and perception.  Michael has also served as Director of Programs at the Institute for Data Science and Computing, working on AI/ML projects in a variety of domains.  His expertise is in the subjects of peak performance, physical and cognitive enhancement, the intersection of neuroscience and fitness, the science of wellbeing, as well artificial intelligence and technology. 

Michael also has a Master’s degree in philosophy, specializing in philosophy of mind, and consciousness, as well as critical thinking. He has taught these subjects for over 10 years. 

Obecnie jest także członkiem zespołu kierowniczego oddziału Singularity University w Miami. Ponadto zasiada w Radzie Doradczej Naukowej Neuvana Life, firmy neurotechnologicznej zajmującej się stymulacją nerwu błędnego; Nue.Life, firmę łączącą terapie cyfrowe z terapią wspomaganą psychodelikami; Society for Neurosports oraz kilku innych firm zajmujących się technologią, wydajnością i neurobiologią. Jest także amatorem, skupiając się na różnych metodach ruchu, w tym joga, animal flow, balansowanie rąk oraz parkour, które należą do jego głównych aktywności flow.  Publikował w dziedzinie misofonii, był recenzentem kilku artykułów i wygłaszał wiele wykładów na temat neurobiologii misofonii.
